Fidel Castro |
Fidel Castro’s political life already ended when he compromised with the Holy See. Today’s Castro has become no more than a tool for differential diagnosis, distinguishing defenders from appeasers: the former straightforwardly calls him a communist and convict; the latter employs rhetoric to evade his real identity.
Ever since elements from the Hebrew (Judaeo-Christian values), Classical (Graeco-Roman secular humanism) and Germanic (feudalism and common law) traditions merged to become the predominant and prevailing features of the West, the world had been dominated by defenders of these traditions. As challengers of these Western traditions evolve, appeasers shift the targets they appease. In contrast, defenders rarely switch the traditions they uphold, despite they have – perhaps no less frequently – changed how they name themselves (conservatives, liberals, democrats, republicans…).
